A waterspout hit Sh. Lhaimagu on the morning of Saturday 7 November, badly damaging the roofs of about four houses and some warehouses and injuring one person, the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) said on X.

NDMA said a person was hit by a flying sheet of roofing tin and suffered a head wound. The person is being treated, and the island council is assessing the damage.

What the island council said

The island council said the waterspout struck at about 7:30 am and came from the north, moving south. It said roofs were blown off, trees were uprooted and some walls fell. Water got into some of the damaged houses. The injured person was treated at the Lhaimagu health centre, the council said.

Flooding in Kolamaafushi on 6 November

The day before, heavy rain flooded homes and buildings in GA. Kolamaafushi, NDMA said on X. The island lost power and some property was damaged. Residents and the island council worked to drain the water, and the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) Southern Area Command sent pumps and sacks for sandbags.

In a follow-up, NDMA said water was being drained by cutting channels across the island. The council said an MNDF team arrived at 9:40 pm and started work.

Heavy rain expected until 11 November

The Maldives Meteorological Service said on 7 November that heavy rain and the possibility of flooding are expected across the country from 7 to 11 November 2026. It also issued a yellow alert at 1:11 pm for Kaafu Atoll to Vaavu Atoll, with torrential rain and thunderstorms expected from 1:20 pm to 4:00 pm.
